Fall is in the Air

It rained yesterday.   Rain in the lone star state has become as infrequent as snowfall.  The air smelled clean and fresh signaling fall is on the way.

Autumn is my favorite time of year.    Each month brings a new celebration leading to one gargantuan crescendo in December.  Yes, fall is definitely the best season of the year!

In short order, there will be a chill in the air.   The cool weather reminds us to turn to the hearth and home.  Warming up your castle for the season ahead will help with preparations for the impending holidays.

Fall is time for ghoulish treasures, and we have many monsters and goblins in need of a new resting place.   You may need our Bridezilla holding court at the head of your next event?

While Bridezilla is minding the mischievous adults about the house, Mr. Pumpkin Head can greet the little ones.

We’ve pumpkins to adorn your table; gawking crows to keep a watchful eye on your guests and our own personal selection of severed limbs from the witches of All Hallow’s Eve.

We hope your fall is full of treats, and maybe a harmless trick or two.

Happy Halloween,

Your Friends at Gatherings

European Vacation

“Paris is always a good idea,” said the beautiful Audrey Hepburn. And, she was in fact telling the God’s honest truth. I revel at this illustrious city. Nothing compares to an afternoon in a Paris cafĂ©. It delivers all the romance promised by every movie made on that particular subject.

It should be our God-given right to enjoy a French vacation annually. However, sometimes visitor la France just isn’t in the vacation budget, right? We all need just a bit of Paris to enjoy as we loll about the house during the dog days of summer ahead. Here are just a few ideas…
Maybe if the heat gets you down, it is time to turn down the AC and don a bit of glam? I think a rhinestone tiara could be just what the doctor ordered. I’m pretty sure Marie Antoinette herself would have approved of such fineries. Send the family to the lake; pour yourself a glass of wine and sport your tiara while sipping with a girlfriend or two. Nobody ever has to know but the ladies. You can spend an afternoon playing “Pretty Pretty Princess” and nobody other than your friends will be the wiser!

Paris is the city of lights as well as a display of some of the most unbelievable architecture on the face of the earth. Versailles, the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre are spectacles to behold. The cathedrals at Notre Dame and Montmartre are breath-taking. The structures are what fairy tales are made of.  However, those beautiful churches may be out of your reach this summer. How can you demonstrate your appreciation and respect? A respectable showing of crucifixes as well as Madonnas will take you back in time to those incredible houses of God. And, maybe this particular display will remind you to moderate at your next Princess Party!

Statuary wasn’t invented by the Europeans, but in my opinion their representation is by far the best.   My advice, display our beautiful statuary upon your favorite French commode or bureau, and you can enjoy the statuary for time immemorial.

I know the heat can often send us reeling, but there is no need to shut the door and avoid the world.  A trip abroad without the passport will leave you feeling quite replete. Visit us soon!

Have a great summer!

Yankee Doodle Day!

“Red, Yellow, Blue, Green…,” called out the passenger in the boat anchored next to ours.  Bless her heart!  She was filming the July 4th fireworks, and through her viewfinder the works appeared black and white.   I’ve often wondered how long it took her to discover the Independence Day docudrama didn’t require narration!

Independence day is a time for celebrating the birth of our nation which we fondly do with parades, hot dogs, ice cold beer and a bit of good old-fashioned American revelry.
In honor of our nation’s birth, please proudly display Old Glory; indulge in some cherry pie and ice cream; and take the time to remember our forefathers who fought for freedom and the liberty we take for granted every day.

Thomas Jefferson was the principal author of our Declaration of Independence.  Both Jefferson and John Adams signed the declaration.  Adams went on to become our 2nd president and Jefferson our third.  It is a surreal coincidence that both men, Adams and Jefferson, died on July 4, 1826.  I feel certain they held on in honor of this momentous occasion.  Our 5th president, James Monroe, was not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, but a founding father.  Monroe also died on July 4, but not until 1831.

A bit of patriotic cheer is in order on this auspicious occasion.  If you need some assistance, please come see us.  We have a few 48-star flags; a baseball or two from that time-honored American tradition; and serving pieces perfect for your backyard picnic.

God Bless America and have a Yankee Doodle Day!!!!

Summertime

I hear the cool water and warm sand calling my name.  Father Time is ticking, and another Memorial Day beckons me to the beach.
Should summer fun be limited to three National Holidays?  No!!!  How about a day at the beach in our daily lives?  You can add a bit of summer pizzazz to your home harkening back to those days of summer long ago when every day was a day at the beach.
Check out our gorgeous Czech fish platter and matching plates.  They are begging for a bit of shrimp louie.  And, if you are throwing a summer bash, you might adorn your table with vintage fishnet, shells, candles and a buoy or two.
We have many new arrivals from Belgium, France, Germany and the UK.   And, our selection of European garden statuary is second to none.
May your summer be carefree and filled with the love of family; the laughter of friends and the sheer joy of inner peace.
Happy Memorial Day and God Bless America,
Your friends at Gatherings

Garden Time

Summer is here!! Our weather changes so fast it is hard to decide how to dress each day. With our warmer weather, we are ready to spend more time outside in our yards. And now is a great time to add new garden items to our home. We have a great selection of garden "rust" and European planters, birdbaths and unique items that will definitely make your yard stand out in the neighborhood. Our container from France will be in the first part of June and as soon as I return from England it will be out for sale. So plan on a trip to Gatherings mid-June for first choice. Happy planting!
